Digital Technology advances, Cyber Crime surfaces, Tackle with awareness.

In school days we were scared about getting cipher (Zero) and today’s worry is about cyber. Life hangs between attacks always. Still stay alive.

During the lockdown, it a period full of learning as far as I am concerned and definitely for many of you as well.

Seminars to webinar. Personal meeting to web meeting, Direct Marketing to Virtual Marketing.

I have never been a tech savvy and the lockdown forced me to learn many things and download many apps and maximum time looking at my smart phone and ears plugged with earphones.

Downloaded Zoom, cyberex, go to webinar, google, Facebook etc.,,,

From a person who was always on the move, suddenly the whole life is within 1000sqft maximum.

Once in a week to go for groceries or vegetables is a relaxation and driving on an average 250kms per day to 1.5kms a week.

“Ippadi busya irundha naan, Eppadi ayitten”.

Coming to the subject, last two days, I was listening to two webinar about cyber crimes and protection and how they can be prone to attacks and what are the invisible forms of attack and invisible defence equipment.

OMG! Too much for a person like me to take in two days. It becomes over dose. But, the seriousness is very critical.

1. Porn content – They we’re talking about child porn, gang rape videos being uploaded and many hard to hear, but real situations of today.

A very senior advocate was explaining how the judiciary is bringing sections after sections to curb such activities and how the Cyber cell is full time in action.

2. Social media platforms – How much vulgarity is being pushed in. Twitter have many people talking all foul languages and there is no gender difference as everyone is firing his or her salvo.

Sometimes, people come in disguise men as women and vice versa. Disguising in religion as film stars and all pathetic.

3. Emails – Phising e-mail is one we have been living with it for quite some years.

They have created websites and bank account to get relief for Corona victims and our good hearted people thinking that paying money to some organisation is a Punya and donate freely.

4. Attractive cartoons or memes in a site is always inviting trouble and you try to fiddle around and your computer and all passwords compromised.

5. “Work from home”, they are prone to many type of attacks and their organisation is trying to control so many employees from remote control to protect any attacks.

Times have changed from military attacks, terrorist attacks to cyber attacks. There the enemy is visible at one point and here it is so difficult.

Beware of all the problems. And take all precautions. I did not want to go in to details of above subjects to create fear in the minds of readers as already everyone is stressed out with lockdown.

I have heard some precautions which I would like to share with you all:

1. Beware of fake portals. They may use corona name just to get you emotionally invited.

2. Think n verify before paying any relief funds.

3. Don’t accept any stranger on any grounds in to your FB or other social media platform.

4. Keep changing your password. Keep it in a combination of many keys to avoid hacking.

5. Keep changing your security questions.

6. Beware of Rogue mobile applications and they may hijack your account.

7. Don’t shy away from reporting about your crime. Today it is your problem and tomorrow may be someone else. Please report.

Prevention and protection is better than cure.

I was to write an article on a very different subject today but, felt this information most important.

Keep social distancing from Corona and Cyber crimes and be safe.

www.cybersaathi.com is a website being inaugurated tomorrow by a senior advocate from Supreme Court of India for Cyber Crimes, will be offering it to the public.
