‘Andhagan’ Movie Review by Naveen

Prashanth gives a strong comeback

‘Andhagan’

– Review

Prashanth, a visually-challenged piano player, lives alone with his cat and plays at a resto bar in the evenings to make his living.
It is here that he meets Priya Anand and the two become close. Yesteryear actor Karthick is also a frequent visitor to the bar and he falls in love with Prashanth’s music.
Karthick invites Prashanth to his place for a private concert for his wedding anniversary to surprise his wife Simran.
Landing up at the actor’s place, Prashanth finds he is not home and he receives a shock instead. There is a murder that is committed and Prashanth turns witness. What happens next?
The movie is a faithful remake of ‘Andhadhun’ and director Thiagarajan has followed the script to a T.
In remakes, especially of the hit films, there aren’t many surprises the new version can create to boost its creativity.
But Andhagan cleverly dodges this bullet, when the makers know just the right actors to be cast in the roles.
Thiagarajan, who has directed and produced the film, delivers a solid film visually, primarily not only because Andhagan comes off as a visually pleasing film, but also smartly done technically.
Prashanth easily fits into the role of the blind pianist and you can see how much the actor holds the screen with his presence.
Simran, who takes up the role played by Tabu, as a cunning woman who can be manipulative and vulnerable at the same time, is one of the greatest additions, which eventually makes her and Prashanth as pillars holding the audiences’ attention on the film.
Priya Anand too is decent as Julie and numerous other characters, like Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Manobala, Leela Samson and Vanitha Vijayakumar have all done their part well.
Samuthirakani steps in as a cop – for the umpteenth time in Tamil cinema – and obviously it’s a cakewalk for him.
Santhosh Narayanan is brilliant with his background music and songs. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good as well.
