International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicity Trafficking was observed on Friday (26 June) and many celebrities raised their voices against drug abuse. The list includes Oscar-Grammy winning musician AR Rahman.

In a video, he said, “Today is the day to voice against drug abuse and its illicit trafficking. In the present scenario, awareness is the need of the hour. We can come out of the present COVID-19 pandemic one day. But it is very difficult to come out of drug addiction.”

Stating that the effects of drug addiction is frightening, the ace music composer added: “It leads to evil thoughts and the resultant bad habits have ruined the lives of many people.”

“Evil deeds such as committing heinous crimes and the child abuse are some of the effects of drug addiction. Hence, let us take the pledge to abstain from the use of drugs and save the younger generation from the clutches of the drug menace,” he further said.

At present, Rahman is scoring the music for a string of Tamil films, including Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and Sivakarthikeyan-starrer ‘Ayalaan’.
