Ajith wanted to remake Rajinikanth’s ‘Johnny’

Filmmaker John Mahendran, son of late legendary director J Mahendran, is famous for his directorial ‘Sachein’ starring Vijay in the lead role. He has revealed in a recent interview that Ajith wanted to remake superstar Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Johnny’ directed by his father.

In a recent interview, John said Ajith had met Mahendran and expressed his wish to remake Rajinikanth’s dual avatar in ‘Johnny’ since he was the one who directed the original version.

Mahendran had also felt that Ajith would be a perfect cast for the remake, and had even thought of bankrolling the film. However, the project did not proceed further as Mahendran then got disinterested in doing the remake as he believed that classic hits should not be touched again.

“Ajith wanted my dad to helm the remake. He was even ready to produce the film and my dad too felt that Ajith would be perfect for the remake. But as my dad wasn’t interested in remakes, the project didn’t materialize,” John said.

Ajith was busy shooting for ‘Valimai’ directed by H Vinoth when the Covid-19 induced lockdown halted the work. The film produced by Boney Kapoor has musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
