With many films, including Jyothika’s ‘Ponmagal Vandhaal’ and Keerthy Suresh-starrer ‘Penguin’ deciding to take OTT route due to Covid-19 lockdown, there was a buzz that Anushka Shetty-starrer ‘Nishabdham’ too would go to the digital way.
Following this, Kona Venkat, one of the producers of the movie, said that theatrical release is their top priority, but they might go for an OTT release if the situation is not favourable.
“Lot of speculations r being made on the release of our film NISHABDHAM in the media. We would like to clarify that “Theatrical release is our top PRIORITY. If the situation isn’t favourable for a long time then our alternate would be to release on OTT platform”. Hope for the best,” he wrote.
As the news about the digital release of ‘Nishabdham’ spread, some people claimed that Anushka was however opposing the move. To clear the air on rumours, she said, “Producer’s decision is final. No one should not comment against it.”
The movie, which was promoted as a silent thriller, has Madhavan, Anjali and Shalini Pandey in important roles, with Anushka playing the lead role. Anushka-Madhavan’s The story of ‘Nishabdham’ is said to be inspired by an American thriller titled ‘Hush’.
The story of ‘Hush’ revolves around a deaf writer, who leads a secluded life in the woods and how she fights for her life when a masked psychotic killer appears in her window.
Directed by Hemant Madhukar, the film features an ensemble star cast that includes the likes of Michael Madsen, Subbaraju and Srinivasa Avasarala. In an interview, writer-producer Kona Venkat said that Anushka was not the first choice for ‘Nishabdham’. “Anushka wasn’t the first choice for the female lead’s role as I have written the script for another female superstar,” he said.
He added: “When I was returning from Mumbai, I spotted Anushka on the same flight. Suddenly, the plane had a tyre puncture and it has been diverted to Chennai. Meanwhile, I pitched the storyline of ‘Nishabdham’ to her and it took a week’s time for her to give the final nod.”
