Veteran folk singer and actress Paravai Muniyamma died at her residence in Madurai in the wee hours of today. She was 83 and she passed away due to age related ailments.
Paravai Muniyamma’s acting career started off with a role in ‘Dhool’ (2003). Since then she has appeared in over 50 films, usually playing grandmother roles.
She has completed 2,000 stage performances on folk songs, which also includes shows in London, Singapore and Malaysia.
After she was hospitalized, the Tamil film industry helped her, including actors Sivakarthikeyan and Vishal. Then, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa helped her under the MGR welfare scheme by arranging 6 lakhs fixed deposit in her name, and actor Dhanush had also taken care of her treatment expenses.
She has been awarded in 2019, Kalaimamani for the year of 2012 by the government of Tamil Nadu. May her soul rest in peace.
