Donations are pouring in from film personalities to help workers in the cinema industry who are suffering without wages, due to the halt of shoots and other works due to the coronavirus pandemic.
While superstar Rajinikanth has given Rs 50 lakh to Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathi have given Rs 10 lakh each. Already, Sivakumar’s family including Suriya and Karthi have donated Rs 10 lakh.
Film personalities like P Vasu, Sathyajyothi M Thiyagarajan, Harish Kalyan, Loksh Kanagaraj, ‘Aadukalam’ Naren, Chita Lakshmanan, veteran actress Sacchu and others have donated to FEFSI to help the suffering workers.
FEFSI president RK Selvamani said in a statement that he got a phone call from one of his members saying that he couldn’t even provide proper food to his family.
He said nearly 15,000 workers are unable to fulfill the basic needs of their family members and requested affluent actors and producers to donate Rs 1 crore so that FEFSI can at least provide rice bags to their members.
