– Movie Review

It looks like Tamil cinema has developed a new genre- honour killing. After the likes of ‘Kanni Madam’ and ‘Draupathi’, ‘Ettuthikkum Para’, helmed by Keera, revolves around the same subject.

While the basic idea is good, the director has missed the buss on screenplay and making. As a result, watching ‘Ettuthikkum Para’ becomes a tough task.

Ambedh (Samuthirakani) is an advocate and social activist who gets on the wrong side of the government, prompting them to get his son and friends killed.

Meanwhile, a young boy (Nithish Veera) from a ‘lower caste’ wants to marry a girl from an ‘upper caste’. A woman (Chandini) leaves for Chennai to marry the man of her choice.

A man (Munishkanth) is in search of Rs 20,000 to save the life of his son. How these stories interact forms the crux of the film.

Samuthirakani plays an activist for the nth time and even before his introduction, we know what is going to do on screen. Munishkanth, Chandini  and Muthuraman are adequate.

M S Sreekanth’s music and Sabu Joseph’s editing add some value to the movie. Keera, who had earlier helmed films like ‘Merlin’ and ‘Pacchai Enginra Kaathu’, could have presented a better story in an engrossing manner.
