This week, as part of its Friday special articles series, Mykollywood.com takes a look at those flicks which took bold steps and showed their lead actors in a different light.
‘Sixer’ is a a romantic comedy film written and directed by Chachi, marking his directorial debut. The film stars Vaibhav Reddy and Pallak Lalwani, with Sathish and Radha Ravi playing the supportive roles.
M Ghibran composed music for the film while cinematography was handled by P G Muthiah. The story of ‘Sixer’ follows a person with night blindness, who faces difficulties in routine and love life because of his condition. The film was theatrically released on 30 August 2019.
Aadhi (Vaibhav Reddy) is a civil engineer who lives a happy life with his cute family, consisting of his parents (Ilavarasu and Sriranjini). His biggest worry is his nyctalopia, as he cannot see anything after 6PM, so his marriage also becomes a big question mark.
‘Psycho’ is a psychological thriller film written and directed by Mysskin. The film’s music was composed by Ilaiyaraja. The film was produced by Arun Mozhi Manickam under Double Meaning Production.
The film features Udhayanidhi Stalin, Aditi Rao Hydari, Nithya Menen, Ram, Rajkumar Pitchumani in his debut and Shaji Chen. Production began in September 2018 and the film released worldwide on 24 January 2020.
The movie opens with the psycho beheading a woman. Gautham (Udhayanidhi Stalin), a blind musician, is in love with an radio jockey, Dahini (Aditi Rao Hydari). After multiple attempts by Gautham, Dahini finally understands his true love and asks him to meet her at a place she will be talking about in her radio session. Gautham listens to the radio all day and manages to find the place which is a train subway.
‘Taana’ is a romantic comedy film directed by Yuvaraj Subramani. The film stars Vaibhav and Nandita Swetha in the lead roles. The film was titled Taana, which is based on the Tamil term Taanakaran (Police).
Sakthi (Vaibhav Reddy), a youngster, suffers from a rare disorder called puberphonia. His voice changes to that of a woman’s whenever he gets nervous. He hails from a family of policemen and his father (Pandiarajan), who too is a cop, wants Sakthi to become one to uphold the family tradition.
However, Sakthi is reluctant to take up the job due to his voice condition. But, a situation, in which a woman loses her life because of a gang of fraudsters, changes his mind.
‘Rajavukku Check’ is a thriller film written and directed by Sai Rajkumar. The film stars Cheran in the lead role, irfan as antagonist with actresses Srushti Dange, Sarayu and Nandana Varma in supporting roles.
The film features music composed by Vinod Yajamaanyaa and cinematography by M S Prabhu. Cheran plays a police officer who is separated from wife and daughter. He suffers from a rare condition called Kleine-Levin syndrome.
It is sort of the opposite of insomnia. As an investigating officer in the CB-CID, he battles this health issue in addition to the challenges of solving cases.
‘Naan Sirithaal’ is written and directed by Raana in his directorial debut. Following the success of ‘Natpe Thunai’, Sundar C produced Aadhi’s third film.
Hiphop Tamizha and Iswarya Menon played leading roles and K S Ravikumar played a villain role, while Badava Gopi, Eruma Saani Vijay played supporting roles. It is a feature film version of Raana’s own short film ‘Keka Beka’.
Gandhi (Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi) is an IT guy who suffers from Pseudobulbar affect. It makes him to laugh uncontrollably whenever he is nervous, sad or angry. The film follows his struggle with the disease and how it turns his life around.
