Producer-actor A L Alagappan has made one more shocking revelation abouut the divorce of his son and director Vijay with actress Amala Paul.
In an interview, he said Amala Paul took the decision of staying away from films after marriage. “However, Dhanush offered her the lead role in his production venture, ‘Amma Kanakku’ and the actress agreed to star in it,” he said.
He said this is one of the reasons behind Vijay and Amala Paul’s divorce. It may be recalled that VIjay, announcing his separation with Amala, said in a statement then: “When Amala wanted to continue her career in films, I supported her. I was never a hindrance. The accusations that I or my family were stopping her from work are completely untrue. The base for any marital relationship is honesty and trust when that is breached the existence of committed relationship becomes pointless. I really value the institution of marriage and relationship a lot.”
In an interaction with filmmaker-actor Chithra Lakshmanan, Alagappan said though he did not approve the wedding, he could not anything about it as Vijay was adamant. “I denied him permission several times and struggled a lot to restrict him from marrying her. It is a tragedy,” he said.
He added: “It is nothing about marrying a girl from cinema industry. I have treated actresses who worked with us like sisters. We can’t blame a woman blindly.”
Alagappan further said, “What worried me the most was that I realised that characters of Vijay and Amala Paul would not work for a marriage life. We had also heard a lot about her. Though we didn’t accuse her blindly, I kept insisting Vijay that it won’t work.”
