The Kamal Haasan-led Makkal Needhi Maiam will participate in a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Chennai on December 23.
DMK organisation secretary and Rajya Sabha member R S Bharathi called on Kamal Hassan at the latter’s residence in the city on Thursday and invited him to the rally.
Speaking to the media later, Bharathi said, “DMK president M K Stalin asked us to formally invite all the allies to the rally. Stalin also wanted us to invite Kamal Hassan. We met him and invited him. Kamal Hassan thanked us.”
These developments have led to speculations that the DMK and the Makkal Needhi Maiam are coming closer in political arena. It is to be noted that Kamal has already expressed his voice against the CAA.
Speaking to the media after meeting protesting Madras University students on Wednesday, Kamal said that his party was ready to be part of the protest rally by DMK and allies.
“If my doctor permits, I will participate in the rally. I have come here on my own against the doctor’s advice,” said Kamal, who recently underwent a surgery on his leg.
