Actor-politician Kamal Haasan has said his party Makkal Needhi Maiam would not contest in the local body elections in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, Kamal said, ”the MNM has now become a people’s force and the sweet truth is that those who had criticised us yesterday have now become our supporters today and started enquring about our well being”.
Stating that it was clear that people’s participation in these elections will be very less, he added that the local body elections will not be a journey towards people’s welfare.
He slammed both the ruling AIADMK and DMK for “staging a political drama” in the name of elections and added his party will not contest the rural civic polls adding that his goal was to take power in Tamil Nadu in the 2021 Assembly elections.
“The coming election to the local bodies in Tamil Nadu is not going to be a wholly representative exercise by the people and the advances or gains the MNM could make by participating in these elections is not going to make any big difference,” he said. Kamal said his party’s target is 2021 Assembly polls.
