With technology bringing anything and everything to our palms through mobile phones and with the advent of platforms like Amazon and Netflix etc., web series are gaining popularity and our Kollywood personalities are trying their hands in the new segment.
Samantha Akkineni recently confirmed that she would play a key role in the second season of popular web series ‘The Family Man’.
Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the creators of the web series, have confirmed the commencement of the shoot of the second season of ‘Family Man’ and they tagged Samantha in their tweets.
Samantha too acknowledged her presence in the second season by expressing gratitude to fans and social media users who wished her all the luck in the web series space. According to sources, Samantha will sport a negative shaded role in the web series which also stars Manoj Bajpayee and Priyamani.
Tamannah Bhatia, who is for the first time acting in a web series for Hotstar, titled ‘The November Story’, has completed shooting for its first schedule. The series is bankrolled by Vikatan group, which is into magazines, television serials and web portal.
In a tweet, Tamannah said, “Wrapped up the first schedule of The November Story, my maiden Tamil web series, eagerly looking forward to the next schedule curated by a young passionate talented lot Produced by @AnandaVikatan for @hotstartweets Directed by #Ramsubramanian DOP @vidhu_ayyanna.”
Ramya Krishnan stars in a new web series titled ‘Queen’, which is on actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa. The first look was released recently and it features Ramya Krishnan posing as Jayalalithaa with her hands folded and wearing a white sari with red and blue border.
‘Queen’ is jointly being directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and Prasath Murugesan. In the first-look poster, Ramya Krishnan looks believable as J Jayalalithaa and is seen clad in a white saree.
‘Queen’ categorizes Jayalalithaa’s life into three segments—as a school-going girl, a teenager and the phase when she joined politics, taking over MG Ramachandran’s position, after his death.
Meena is playing the lead role with Zee5’s action-comedy, ‘Karoline Kamakshi’, which also stars Italian model, Giorgia Andriani. The web series apparently revolves around two undercover agents – an Indian and a French – who are divided by character, yet united by work profile.
A statement from the makers says, “Meena plays the role of Kamakshi, a Tamil Brahmin, who inherits the CBI job after her father’s demise. She is least interested in a taxing job like this, but survives through the work with her witty nature and intelligence.
Karoline is a French undercover agent, who comes to Pondicherry on a vacation, but is forced to take up an assignment by her boss. These two contrasting personalities come together to trace down a scandalous gangster in order to retrieve a world-famous artifact, which carries international importance.”
Director Vetrimaaran, who is basking on the success of his recent film ‘Asuran’ with Dhanush, is doing a Netflix anthology, that features Prakash Raj and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles.
Director Vignesh Shivan is also part of the Netflix anthology and sources say he has wrapped up the shooting of his portion for the anthology with Anjali and Kalki Koechlin.
