Drummer Sivamani, who was recently conferred with Padma Shri by the Central government, has submitted the award to Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala. Also, he performed music archana to the Almighty.
Acompanied by keyboard artiste Prakash Ulliyeri, Sivamani carried the irumudikattu on the head, climbed the sacred 18 steps (Pathinettampady) and offered prayers to Lord Ayyappa.
Sivamani, who had also carried two drumsticks along with his irumudi to the temple, did a small percussion on a steel drum kept near the hundi there.
The drummer stated this was his 35th consecutive pilgrimage and he wanted to surrender his Padma Shri award to Lord Ayyappa.
After having darshan at the Ayyappa and Malikappuram Devi temples, Sivamani performed percussion on the drums at the Sree Dharma Sastha auditorium at Sannidhanam.
Sivamani, commonly known by his stage name Drums Sivamani, is an Indian percussionist. He plays many instruments including drums, octoban, darbuka, udukai, ghatam and kanjira. He performed drumming during the IPL Championships in 2008 and 2010. He is affiliated with the Chennai Super Kings team, but gained recognition through his role as A R Rahman’s lead percussionist.They are close friends from childhood. In 2019, he was conferred with Padma Shri.
