TN govt slaps notice on Dhruv Vikram, Radikaa Sarathkumar

The Tamil Nadu government has issued notices to actors Radikaa Sarathkumar and Dhruv Vikram for glorifying smoking in the promo posters and teasers of their films ‘Market Raja MBBS’ and ‘Adithya Varma’, respectively.

While ‘Adithya Varma’, the launch vehicle of Dhruv, hit the screens last week, ‘Market Raja MBBS’, which features the veteran actress in a key role, is getting ready to see the light of the day this weekend.

In its notice, the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Chennai, said that it is an offence according to Section 5 and 22 of COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act). It has demanded explanation from the makers of the movie and asked them to remove such posters, teasers, trailers and videos of smoking scenes within seven days of the issue of notice.

Radikaa is playing a woman don in ‘Market Raja MBBS’ and was seen smoking a cigar in the posters that came out. In ‘Adithya Varma’, a remake of Telugu hit ‘Arjun Reddy’, Dhruv Vikram was seen in smoking and drinking scenes.
