Veteran Telugu actress Geetanjali Ramakrishna passed away in Hyderabad due to cardiac arrest. She was getting treated at a private hospital when she breathed her last. Many Telugu film personalities have expressed their condolences.
Known for her roles in films like ‘Illalu’, ‘Abbayigaru Ammayigaru’, ‘Kaalam Marindi’ and ‘Sambarala Rambabu’, Geetanjali has worked in many Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil films. Also, she appeared in the Hindi film ‘Parasmani’.
In a statement, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said Geetanjali’s role as Goddess Sita in ‘Sitarama Kalyna’ (a film by N T Rama Rao) would be remembered forever. The actress starred in about 500 films.
Originally named as Mani, Geetanjali was born at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. She got married to fellow actor Ramakrishna after working with him in a few films. The couple’s son Adith Srinivas made his debut as actor with the 2008 film ‘Bhuma’.
