Maestro Ilayaraja and lyricist Vairamuthu, who gave us many evergreen songs years ago, parted ways due to difference opinion and are yet to bury the hatchet. This was evident recently, when the two attended an event to felicitate legendary singer P Susheela.
Speaking on the occasion, Ilayaraja said, “The lines in Susheela amma’s ‘Malai Pozhuthin Mayakathile’ stay relevant even to today’s youngsters. There is no other lyricist in the world who could pen songs within the first hearing of the tune like Kannadasan, he is the best in the world. Susheela amma’s vocals enhanced his lyrics and thus spreading his incredible work for years now”.
In his speech, Vairamuthu said, “Kannuku Mai Azhagu became history because of Susheela amma’s voice. It was originally composed for Rajinikanth’s ‘Manithan’ but no one was willing to use it in their tune. There is no doubt about the greatness of Kannadasan. Also, I’m sure all of us agree that MS Viswanathan is the best music composer in the world.”
Ilayaraja saying Kannadasan as the greatest lyricist and Vairamuthu countering it with by saying MS Viswanathan as the best music composer in the world is being seen as yet another example of their ego clash.
