In a shocking charge against former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who was arrested by the CBI on Wednesday night, the Enforcement Directorate has said he had asked the then promoters of INX Media Group, Peter and Indrani Mukrerjea, to “take care of his son” when they met him for FIPB approval. This was revealed to the Supreme Court by the ED, which also said that during the investigation it found Chidambaram had 11 immovable properties and 17 bank accounts abroad and his custodial interrogation was required to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case. According to the agency, the “most surprising thing” found during the probe was that persons on whose names shell companies were created, had executed the will in the name of Chidambaram’s grand daughter. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Friday granted interim protection to Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case filed by the ED. However, he will remain in custody as the SC did not intervene in the CBI case. The court adjourned hearing on the pleas against the Central Bureau of Investigation and ED filed by Chidambaram, seeking interim protection against his arrest, to Monday.
