A team of CBI and ED officials reached former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s Delhi residence on Tuesday evening but returned after failing to find him.
Chidambaram has moved the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case. However, he failed to get an audience from Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi for urgent hearing of his appeal in the Supreme Court against the Delhi high Court order dismissing his anticipatory bail plea.
Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram are being probed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI in the INX Media case. After two applications for anticipatory bail by Chidambaram were dismissed by Delhi high court justice Sunil Gaur, his lawyer Kapil Sibal, another senior Congress leader, approached the apex court seeking an urgent hearing.
Chidambaram’s lawyer Arshdeep Singh Khuran wrote to CBI after the agency had put up a notice outside Chidambaram’s residence: ” I am instructed to state that your notice fails to mention the provision of law under which my client has been issued a notice to appear within 2 hours. Furthermore, my client is exercising the rights available to him in law & had approached the Supreme Court on August 20 seeking urgent reliefs in respect of the order dismissing his anticipatory bail (in INX media case). He has been permitted by SC to mention the urgent Special Leave Petition against the order before Court at 10:30 am today. I, therefore, request you not to take any coercive action against my client till then & await the hearing at 10:30 am.”
