Kanchipuram, which has become the superstar of all temple towns thanks to Lord Athi Varadar, had a surprise visitor in the form of superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday.
Accompanied by his wife Latha, Rajini left his Poes Garden residence on Tuesday night and reached Kanchipuram in an hour. From the entrance of the Sri Varadarajaswamy temple, he was escorted to the Vasantha Mandapam, where Lord Athi Varadar is giving darshan, by officials and police personnel.
Devotees who spotted Rajini cheered him as he went inside the temple. There, Rajini and Latha sat before the Lord and offered prayers. They were given prasadams by priests.
Sources say that Rajini has decided to float his party in January 2020 and he sought the Almighty’s blessings for his political mission.
With just two more days to go for curtains to come down on Athi Varadar vaibhavam, crowds have been thronging Kanchipuram in large numbers. A case has been filed in the Madras High Court, seeking to extend the darshan by another 48 days.
Athi Varadar started on July 1, after the Lord’s idol was taken out of the holy tank. After initially giving darshan in sayana kolam (sleeping pose), He is now in ninra thirukkolam (standing pose).
