Only one Tamil movie was selected for National Award this year and it’s the lesser known ‘Baaram’ helmed by Priya Krishnaswamy and produced by Reckless Roses.
‘Baaram’, a ninety-one-minute film, was earlier premiered in the Indian Panorama section of 49th IFFI 2018 and the director had expressed happiness then through social media.
‘Baaram’ deals with thalaikoothal (the traditional practice of senicide) which is rampant in some parts of Tamil Nadu.
Jayanth Mathavan is the cinematographer for the project which has Sugumar Shanmughan, its casting director, playing a key role in it.
While Keerthy Suresh won the National Award for her performance in ‘Mahanati’, the bio-pic on legendary actress Savithri also bagged National Award for best costumes and adjudged as the Best Telugu film of 2018.
