Travel is the theme – Friday Spl. Article by Naveen

Travel is one of the favourite subjects of Tamil filmmakers. While most of the movies would show travel in at least one or two scenes, there are full-fledged travel flicks too.

And, their themes vary from love to space to hunt for history to adventure to time travel. This week, as part of its weekly special articles series, tracks movies with travel as their themes.


‘Paiyaa’ is a 2010 romantic road action film written, produced and directed by N Linguswamy. It stars Karthi and Tamannaah, with Milind Soman, Sonia Deepti and Jagan appearing in supporting roles.

The film follows the journey of two strangers – a jobless carefree man, living in Bangalore, and a woman with whom he has fallen in love. Upon the woman’s request, he drives her to Mumbai, while a group of gangsters follow them, planning to kidnap the woman. Meanwhile, the man also has a past in the city and he goes there to sort it out.


‘Indru Netru Naalai’ is a 2015 science fiction comedy film written and directed by R Ravikumar in his debut feature. The film is jointly produced by Thirukumaran Entertainment and Studio Green.

It features Vishnu Vishal and Miya in the lead while Karunakaran, T M Karthik and Jayaprakash play supporting roles. The film received positive reviews from critics and become a box office hit.

In the year 2065, a scientist (Arya) invents a time machine. To prove its capability, he sends it back in time to 2015, programming it to return within forty seconds. However, the machine does not return. What happens next forms the rest.


‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is a 2010 action-adventure film written and directed by Selvaraghavan, inspired loosely by the historical decline of the Tamil Chola dynasty and the rise of the Tamil Pandya dynasty.

Produced by R Ravindran, it features music composed by G V Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Ramji and editing by Kola Bhaskar. The film stars Karthi, Reemma Sen and Andrea Jeremiah in the lead with Parthiepan playing a pivotal role.

The film’s synopsis goes like this: Chandramouli, a famous archeologist, goes missing while on a research expedition. Anitha, a government officer, and Lavanya, Chandramouli’s daughter, embark on an adventurous journey to find him.


’10 Endrathukulla’ is a 2015 action film written and directed by Vijay Milton. Produced by AR Murugadoss and Fox Star Studios, the film features Vikram and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead roles.

It was released on 21 October 2015 to mixed reviews.[9] The film was also dubbed into Hindi as ’10 Ka Dum’ (2016) with Vikram’s voice dubbed by Rajesh Khattar and into Telugu as ‘Ten’.

And the synopsis: Das, a local criminal, hires Vikram, a driving instructor, to take a young woman, Shakeela, to a village landlord in Mussoorie. Vikram falls in love with Shakeela, even though he is initially irritated by her antics.


‘Tik Tik Tik’ is a 2018 science fiction film written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan. The film features Jayam Ravi, Nivetha Pethuraj, and Aaron Aziz in the lead roles.

The Indian Space Research Organisation recruits Vasu, an escape artist, and his team for a mission to avert the catastrophe expected to be caused by an asteroid advancing towards Earth. Are they able to do it or not forms the crux.
