From idiot box, television has become smart, suave and a supplier of talents to big screen. While the likes of Sivakarthikeyan, Ma Ka Pa Anand and Robo Shankar are TV’s gifts to the tinsel town in the males section, there are stunning women talents too who have stepped into cinema from the small screen.
This week, as part of its Friday special articles series that track multiple aspects of cinema industry, Mykollywood.com takes a look at some females from Tamil TV segment who are now film actresses.
PRIYA BHAVANI SHANKAR
Priya Bhavani Shankar’s first recognition was as a news presenter in Puthiya Thalaimurai channel. She became very popular once started acting as a serial actress in Star Vijay’s ‘Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai’.
She began her career as a software engineer at Infosys, after her Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology.
After entering the media industry she did her Master of Business Administration (MBA). She is known for her roles in ‘Meyaadha Maan’ (2017), ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ (2018) and the recently released ‘Monster’.
The film features ‘Pelli Choopulu’ director Tharun Bhascker as a hero and debutant Shammir as the director. Interestingly, TV anchor and actress Anasuya Bharadwaj is reportedly essaying a pivotal role in the yet untitled project.
Besides this film, Vani is also in talks for a few more film projects, say sources.
Sharanya Turadi Sundaraj is a Tamil television actress, news reporter, and program presenter. She is the main female lead in ‘Nenjam Marapathillai’.
Lokesh Kumar of ‘My Son is Gay’ fame is currently working on his second independent Tamil feature film, ‘N4’. The recent development is that Sharanya Turadi has replaced Vani Bhojan as the film’s female lead.
Lokesh, in an interview, had said that ‘N4’ will a thriller, set against the backdrop of Kasimedu. Michael Thangadurai, known for his films like ‘Burma’ and ‘Nalanum Nandiniyum’, will be playing the male lead.
Madhumitha started her career with Vijay TV’s comedy show ‘Lollu Sabha’. Her first feature film was ‘Oru Kal Oru Kannadi’ in which she was paired opposite to Santhanam.
Her role as Jangiri in the film made her popular. She also acted in ‘Kan Pesum Vaarthaigal’.
She also made few guest appearances in the Vijay TV comedy show, ‘Kalakka Povathu Yaaru’ and played a key role in Sun TV serial ‘Chinna Pappa Periya Paapa’.
Right now, she is one of the participants in the ‘Bigg Boss’ reality show being aired on Vijay TV and hosted by Kamal Haasan.
