Only recently Bharathiraja was selected unanimously to lead the Tamil Film Directors’ Union (TANTIS). However, in a sudden twist on Monday, the veteran filmmaker stepped down from the post in order to allow for democratic elections in the organisation.
In a statement, he said, “I thank everyone for unanimously choosing me as the president without any competition. But I am able to feel the dilemma that comes with being elected to a post without competing.”
“Therefore, I have resigned from my post to allow a democratic selection of the president,” he said and added that he will continue helping the fellow directors and will work hard for the association.
According to reports, he had some bad experience in his position for being elected unanimously without being elected through the polls. So, he decided to resign the post.
It is to be noted that Bharathiraja is also spearheading the ad-hoc committee of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council. In the recently concluded Nadigar Sangam polls, he supported Bhagyaraj-led team that contested against Pandavar Ani of Vishal.
