Makkal Needhi Maiam founder-president Kamal Haasan has called for a press meet today, a day after his party faced a defeat in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and by-poll to 22 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu.
At the press meet to be held at his party office in Chennai, the actor-politician is expected to list out reasons behind his party’s poor show, besides thanking voters who had supported him.
Though MNM did not manage to win a single seat, its candidates have received decent number of votes in many constituencies. The new party has secured third place in as many as 13 Lok Sabha constituencies, giving the party’s founder the hope that it can emerge as an alternative to the two major Dravidian parties.
Chennai Central, Chennai North, Chennai South, Coimbatore, Sriperumbudur, Thiruvallur and Tiruppur are among the constituencies where MNM stood third.
MNM also bagged good number of votes in Erode, Salem, Madurai, Nilgiris, Pollachi and Tenkasi. Meanwhile on the professional front, Kamal is set to begin shoot for ‘Indian 2’ soon.
