After watching Vivekh playing comedy roles all these days, it is a pleasant shock and surprise for us to see him playing a retired police officer who is on a mission, that too in the United States.
Like this, ‘Vellai Pookal’ directed by Vivek Elangovan is loaded with many susprises and twists from beginning till the end, thus keeping the suspense factor alive and active.
Rudhran (Vivekh) is a retired police officer. He is not in good terms with his son Ajay (Dev), who lives in the United States, since he has married an American, named Alice (Paige Henderson).
However, after retirement, Rudhran goes to the US to live with Ajay. He slowly gets accustomed to the living style there and becomes friend with Bharathidasan (Charlie), another retired person who lives with his daughter Ramya (Pooja Devariya).
Interestingly, Ramya happens to be a colleague of Ajay. One day, a mysterious person kidnaps a neighbour of Rudhran. The policeman inside him wakes up and he starts investigating the case.
He is helped in the mission by Bharathidasan. However, as the probe progresses, it only gets too personal for Rudhran loaded with many twists and turns.
Vivekh is solid and has shouldered the entire burden on his shoulders in an effective way. Charlie is tailor-made for his role, while Pooja Devariya, Dev and others are rightly cast.
Technical aspects including cinematography, editing and music add more to the mood of the movie. Though certain scenes fail to work, ‘Vellai Pookal’ strikes a chord in most parts and it is a thriller which you can enjoy this summer.
