Though Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan is optimistic that his friend, superstar Rajinikanth, will support his party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, sources close to the ‘thalaivar’ say he will not do it.
“Since Rajini himself is set to start a political party soon, he is unlikely to support Kamal and his candidates in the Parliamentary polls,” they said.
Recently, during his interaction with the media, Kamal said, “I believe Rajinikanth will support us in the LS elections. Extending help without request would be considered as bigger help.”
Kamal’s party has been allotted ‘battery torch’ symbol by the Election Commission. Kamal said in a tweet: “MNM thanks the Election Commission for granting us the ‘Battery Torch’ symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate. MNM will endeavour to be the ‘Torch-Bearer’ for a new era in TN and Indian politics.””
He told reporters that for a party that had, right from the start, sought to shed light on society’s ills, the allotted symbol was apt, adding that it would ‘shine’.
