Dha Dha 87

– Review

Director Vijay Sri G’s ‘Dha Dha 87’, which features veteran Charuhasan in the lead role, is a film set in the backdrop of north Chennai and tries to track the lives of people there.

The story revolves around a bunch of characters and we get to see a mix of popular and fresh faces (Charuhasan, Janakaraj, Bala Singh are in the first category, while Anand Pandi, Sri Pallavi and Anupallavi fall in the second set).

Sathya (Charuhasan) is an aged don in north Chennai. Despite his age factor, he still dominates the area and controls even politicians. His estranged love interest is Geetha (Saroja).

Residents of the locality include Jail Pandi (Anand Pandi), an ex-serviceman Naidu (Janakaraj) and his daughter Jeni (Sri Pallavi) among others.
Pandi falls for Jeni and confesses his feelings for her. But, both Jeni and Naidu are not for it and they warn Pandi. However, Pandi is firm in his love.

One day, Pandi gets to know the real identity of Jeni and receives the shock of his life. What happens after that forms the rest of Dha Dha 87.
Though Charuhasan’s role is underwritten, he has performed well. Saroja, grandmother of Keerthy Suresh, adds value, while Janakaraj, Bala Singh, Anand Pandi, Sri Pallavi and Anupallavi are adequate.

Though the concept is new and the intention is honest, narration, songs and ineffective scenes affect the flow of the movie. Otherwise, this ‘Dha Dha’ could have called the shots.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5
