Vijayalakshmi, who had acted alongside Vijay and Suriya in ‘Friends’, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Bengaluru.
According to sources, she was suffering from high blood pressure, and her sister, Usha Devi, has made an appeal to the film industry asking for financial help for Vijayalakshmi.
“Last week my mother met with a health problem. Now, my sister Vijayalakshmi has been admitted to a hospital. We spent all the money on the mother’s treatment. We are expecting some help from the industry,” Usha said.
Vijayalakshmi was born in an Iyengar family in Chennai and did her studies in Tamil Nadu. She acted in nearly 40 films in her career. She has acted in nearly 25 Kannada films.
During her stint as an actress, she was recognized for her beauty and performance. She debuted in ace director T S Nagabharana’s film ‘Nagamandala’. The first film of Vijayalakshmi was Nagamandala, based on a folk tale, opposite Prakash Raj.
After a gap, she returned to the Tamil film industry again with the comedy film ‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’, which became one of 2010’s biggest successes. In Telugu, she was recognized in the film ‘Hanuman Junction’. She has also acted in one Malayalam film with Mohanlal ‘Devadoothan’ and Tamil television serials.
