Vijay Sethupathi faces backlash for his remarks on Sabarimala issue

Comments made by Vijay Sethupathi over the Sabarimala row have not gone down well with his fans and general public.

In a recent media interaction in Kerala, the actor backed the stand of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Sabarimala issue, and added that he is a fan of the communist leader.

“The Chief Minister is right on the Sabarimala issue. I don’t understand why there is so much ruckus about it. Women have to bear certain pain every month,” he was quoted as saying.

“We all know why it happens it is a holy thing thanks to which we are here… if there’s no menstruation, there won’t be any men. Hence women are equivalent to Gods,” he added.

Expressing displeasure over his comments, a social media user posted: Makkal Selvan is all wrong about the Sabarimala issue. The head tantri or defenders of Sabarimala tradition have nothing against women. They’re not saying women are impure when they’re menstruating.”

A fan of Vijay Sethupathi said, “Now, you lost a very big fan sir. I really admired you for your straightforwardness and honesty. This is a shocker from you. Either, you are totally ignorant of the issue on the both sides or you are eyeing for some easy publicity.”
