The AP Balala Hakkula Sangam (APBHS) has urged the state’s Director General of Police to initiate action against actress Bhanupriya for employing a minor girl as domestic help.
Amid allegations of sexual harassment of the girl by the actress’ brother, Gopalakrishna, APBHS president Achyutha Rao met Director General of Police RP Thakur and requested him to initiate action.
In the letter, Rao said that Bhanupriya violated the rights of the child and that she should be booked for illegal trafficking and cruelty against children. The child labour prohibition act and the POCSO act have been violated in this case, Rao added.
Recently, Bhanupriya found herself in the middle of a controversy after a child abuse case was filed against her.The complaint was filed by Padmavathi, mother of Bhanupriya’s domestic help Sandhya (16) from Samarlakota in East Godavari district.
In her complaint, Padmavathi said, “My daughter has been employed in Chennai with Bhanupriya. She was recruited by promising a salary of Rs 10,000 per month in 2017. Not only did Bhanupriya fail to honour the salary for even a single month, she also didn’t let my daughter out of her house.”
Padmavathi added: “I could never meet Sandhya for 1.5 years. My daughter was virtually confined inside Bhanupriya’s house. I also suspect that Bhanupriya’s elder brother, Gopalakrishna, has sexually harassed my daughter.”
However, Bhanupriya had refuted the charges against her and said Sandhya was involved in thefts in her house.
