Padma awards for Prabhu Deva, Mohanlal, Shankar Mahadevan, Sivamani

The Padma awards were announced by the Central government on Thursday evening and popular personalities from south Indian film industry have been selected for the honour.

While Malayalam top star Mohanlal has been named for Padma Bhushan, singer-music composer Shankar Mahadevan, drummer Sivamani and choreographer-actor-director Prabhudeva were named for the Padma Shri award.

All these celebrities have expressed happiness over getting selected for the country’s top civilian awards. According to the government, Mohanlal has been selected for the coveted honour for his work in Art-Acting-Film, Shankar Mahadevan for art-vocal-films, Prabhu Deva for art-dance and Sivamani for art-music.

In total, 112 people have been selected for Padma awards this year – four for Padma Vibushan, 14 for Padma Bhushan and 94 for Padma Shri.
