Brave and noble heart

Kayamkulam Kochunni

– Review

For those Tamil audience who are not much aware of Kerala and Mollywood, ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ is about a man like Malayur Mambattian and Seevalaperi Pandi.
Directed by Rosshan Andrews, the bio-pic which features Nivin Pauly in the title role presents us the story of the 19th century Malayali Robin Hood who robbed the rich and fed the poor.
‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ is, among other things, an imposing spectacle. While Nivin Pauly’s performance is a delight to watch, Mohanlal adds more value to the movie with his strong emotions and looks.
Visuals by Binod Pradhan is another delight and all these things combine together to make ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ a feast to watch. In other words, the film transports us to the 19th century.
The research team has done some work, but a needless ‘item’ dance could have very much been avoided. Though the narration moves on a predictable line since this is a bio-pic, we have to admit that it is straight forward and simple.
Despite running for close to hours, the movie sustains our interest and shows us a piece of history of Kerala.

Rosshan Andrrews has managed to strike a chord with the audience in the company of Nivin and others by bringing grandness to a simple story.
