Multi-starrers are lately becoming a trend in Tamil cinema and no one is an exception, from the numero uno actor to the top most director.
With Mani Ratnam’s ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’, which features Arvind Swamy, Simbu, Vijay Sethupathi, Arun Vijay, Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aishwarya Rajesh and Prakash Raj hitting the screens on Thursday, Mykollywood.com takes a look at more interesting multi-starrers in the making.
Before that, when asked about the reason behind the rise in the number of multi-starrers, a trade analyst said, “because, these movies carry immense star value and fans of all the actors who were part of such films would watch them without fail. Moreover, these flicks can easily create a buzz among audience and bring them to theatres.”
Though this is a superstar film, ‘Petta’ directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, has, besides Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Simran, Guru Somasundaram and Megha Akash in key roles.
Anirudh Ravichander is composing music for the movie, while Tirru and Vivek Harshan were selected to be the film’s cinematographer and editor respectively, continuing their collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj following their work in ‘Mercury’ (2018).
Likewise, stunt choreographer Peter Hein also joined the team thereafter. Vijay Sethupathi was signed on to play a character in April 2018, and accordingly reworked his dates to fit the film into his busy schedule.
This second film of director Karthick Naren of ‘Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru’ fame features an ensemble cast led by Aravind Swamy, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan and Indrajith Sukumaran.
The director tweeted about the movie, “Naragasooran is the second installment of the thriller trilogy which I would like to make & it belongs to the same universe of #D16.”
Talking about the movie, Shriya said, “the film will be an engaging entertainer. The storyline is different. Karthick and I had detailed discussion about my role before the shoot. He was very clear about his priorities.”
Vikram Prabhu has teamed up with debutant director U Anbarasan for ‘Walter’, an action entertainer produced by Singaravelan’s Madukkur Movie Makers.
The makers have managed to bring together an interesting team of action heroes. Apart from Vikram Prabhu, the film also features Arjun and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff in the pivotal roles.
‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Radhan takes care of the music department. Jackie Shroff was last seen in the Tamil thriller ‘Maayavan’, in which he played the antagonist. He is reportedly playing the main antagonist in Prabhas’ ‘Sahoo’ too.
The yet untitled movie is being produced by Sri Thenandal Films and it is being made in Tamil and Telugu.
Second directorial venture of Dhanush after ‘Power Paandi’, the flick features Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Sarathkumar, Srikanth, Aditi Rao Hydari and S J Surya in key roles.
The production house tweeted recently: “Shooting of our next project with the dynamic @dhanushkraja, as director and hero, with a super talented team has begun! Excited and looking forward to this bilingual ! #DD2.”
The film’s shooting is currently underway in Madurai. In an interview to Film Companion, Dhanush stated that the project will be made on a budget of Rs 70 crore.
“It’s going be a very big film; a 100 crore film which we plan to compress into a budget of Rs 70 crore. I’m aware I don’t have 70 crore market. Therefore, we’re looking at ways to exploit the market to earn profits on Rs 70 crore. The pre-production work has been going on for a year now,” he said.
