Actresses who fell in love with directors – F’day Spl. Article by Naveen

Actors and actressess falling for each other is a common thing in these parts. But there a bunch of actresses who married directors after falling in love with them. This week, Mykollywood.com takes a look at those filmmaker-actress couples.

KHUSHBU-SUNDAR C

Kushbu is an actress, producer and television presenter who has acted in more than 200 movies. She has received five Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best Actress and one Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention. While Sundar C is a  director, producer and actor. He has directed over 30 films in Tamil and also acted in over 20 movies as the protagonist. Initially, he worked as an assistant director to Manivannan and became a director with the family drama ‘Murai Maman’ (1995). Cupid struck Sundar and Khushbu when they worked together in ‘Murai Maman’.

SUHASINI-MANI RATNAM

Suhasini made her film debut in 1980 with the Tamil film ‘Nenjathai Killathe’, for which she won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress. Suhasini won the National Film Award for Best Actress for ‘Sindhu Bhairavi’ in 1986. She was born to actor Charuhasan, in Paramakudi, into the prominent Haasan family. She married ace film director Mani Ratnam in 1988 and the couple has a son Nandan born in 1992. The family resides in Alwarpet, Chennai, where he runs his production company, Madras Talkies.

RAMYA KRISHNAN-KRISHNA VAMSI

Ramya started her acting career in 1984 at the age of 14 in the Tamil film ‘Vellai Manasu’, opposite Y GEE Mahendra. She gained popularity through her acclaimed role Neelambari in ‘Padayappa’ which also won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Telugu for the 2009 dramedy ‘Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam’. She married Telugu film director Krishna Vamsi on 12 June 2003. They have a son named Ritvick. Vamsi is an Indian film director, producer and choreographer known for his work in Telugu cinema. Vamsi made his directorial debut with the 1995 crime film ‘Gulabi’, starring J D Chakravarthi. He has received two National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards South and three Nandi Awards. Before his directorial debut with ‘Gulabi’, he worked as an assistant director to Ram Gopal Varma.

PREETHA VIJAYAKUMAR-HARI

Preetha is an actress in the Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu film industriess. Her parents are noted actors Vijayakumar and Manjula. She had first signed up to portray the leading role in Ravi Raja Pinisetty’s Telugu film ‘Rukmini’ opposite Vineeth in 1997, but delays meant her Tamil projects released first. She is married to director Hari, best known for his action-masala films in Tamil cinema. Hari was born in the Thoothukudi District of Tamil Nadu, India. His father, Gopal, is a vessels merchant. Later, his family moved to Chennai, where Hari graduated with a degree in Commerce. Hari first joined as an assistant, gaining experience by working with various directors.

SANGEETHA-SARAVANAN

Actress Sangeetha of ‘Poove Unakaga’ and ‘Alexander’ fame married cinematographer Saravanan, who is now a director also, thanks to STR-starrer ‘Silambattam’.

PRIYA-ATLEE

Atlee made his directorial debut with ‘Raja Rani’ (2013), produced by Fox Star Studios, for which he was awarded the Vijay Award for Best Debut Director. He worked as an assistant director with director Shankar for the films ‘Enthiran’ (2010) and ‘Nanban’ (2012). After a successful debut, the streak followed with successive ventures, ‘Theri’ and ‘Mersal’. After courting for about 10 years, Atlee was engaged to actress Krishna Priya whom he married on 9 November 2014.
