Oru Kuppai Kathai

– Review

Lately, Tamil cinema has been churning out movies which are too close to the real life. Director Kaali Rangasami’s ‘Oru Kuppai Kathai’ is one such attempt.
The film, which marks the acting debut of popular choreographer Dinesh ‘master’, is all about how an extra-marital affair in an ordinary family changes the lives of all involved.
Coming straight to the story, Kumar (choreographer Dhinesh ‘Master’) works as trash collector in the Corporation. His job proves to be a stumbling block when it comes to his marriage, as he faces rejections multiple times.
Finally, by making a false statement that he is working as clerk, she marries Poongodi (Manisha Yadav). But her parents know the truth about Kumar’s job. Soon, Kumar and Poongodi become parents.
One day, Poongodi comes to know about Kumar’s real job and all hell breaks loose in the family. A dejected Poongodi distances herself from Kumar and isolates him.
In the meantime, she also finds solace with her neighbour Arjun’s (Sujo Mathew). Along with the infant, she elopes with him.
Dinesh has delivered an impressive performance, be it emotional or happy scenes. Manisha’s performance is solid, while rest of the cast have come up with a good show.
Mahesh Muthuswamy’s cinematography is one of the biggest highlights of the movie. He has used the hidden camera technique to make us feel like as if we are watching a reality show.
To list out the few negative points, the movie is predictable and also moves on a slow pace. At the same time, we should also admit that it is honest, impressive and interesting. And it also delivers an important message.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5
