When director Nag Ashwin initially announced that he would like to make a biopic on legendary actress Savithri, not many were ready to believe.
And when he started the project, with Keerthy Suresh, Samantha, Dulquer Salman and Vijay Deverekonda in lead roles, there were many who said things could not be pulled off.
But ‘Nadigayar Thilakam’ has hit the screens finally and we must say it is a legendary stuff on a legend who had left an indelible mark in the hearts of millions of movie-goers of yesteryears. Good show Nag Ashwin.
Though it’s a biopic, there is an interesting screenplay. Madhuravani (Samantha), an underdog reporter and Antony (Vijay Deverakonda), a photographer, are assigned with the work of doing an article on legendary actress Savithri (Keerthy Suresh).
The popular star remains in coma since a year and the journalist and the lensman start following her story.
They attend a media meet of her husband Gemini Ganesan (Dulquer Salmaan), and get an idea that there is more to Savithri’s story than anyone knows.
From here on, we are shown the (hi)story of Savithri- from her early days to her entry into cinema to her rise to stardom to her personal life to her last days.
Keerthy Suresh is set to win big awards this year, for her performance is exceptional. She has simply lived the life of Savithri. Others in the cast, from Dulquer to Samantha to Vijay, everyone has given their best.
Not just the cast, but the crew comprising cinematographer Dani and music composer Micky J Meyer have done a commendable job. Production values are top-notch.
If you are ready to bear slow scenes and melodramatic sequences, ‘Nadigayar Thilakam’ is no doubt one of the best biopics in the recent year.
