With his last outing ‘Annadurai’ failing to make it big in the box-office, Vijay Antony, the music composer-turned-actor, is pinning big hopes on his upcoming flick ‘Kaali’.
The movie, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, will hit the screens on May 18. Produced by Fatima Antony under Vijay Antony Film Corporation, the film has Anjali, Sunainaa, Shilpa and Amirtha playing key roles.
Recently, the Madras High Court had vacated the interim stay on the release of ‘Kaali’, subject to the condition that the producer and actor deposited Rs two crore to the
credit of the civil suit pending before it.
Earlier, it passed a stay order on the release of ‘Kaali’. The order was issued while hearing a petition filed by William Alexander, proprietor, Picture Box Company.
In his plea, Alexander said, “Though Vijay Antony’s earlier film ‘Annadurai’ received moderate success,
within a week theatres dumped it.”
Stating that he was the distributor of ‘Annadurai’ for Tamil Nadu, he alleged that the actor sold rights at a higher price. When Antony found out about Alexander’s loss, he allegedly promised to give rights of ‘Kaali’ at a lesser price.
Subsequently, an agreement was signed and Alexander paid Rs 50 lakh as advance. However, Alexander alleged that Antony was going against his promise, and wanted the court to direct him to compensate his loss to the tune of Rs 4.73 lakh.
