Trust Karthik Subbaraj to present quality entertainers. After ‘Pizza’, ‘Jigarthanda’ and ‘Iraivi’, the young filmmaker is back with ‘Mercury’, a silent thriller that is set to haunt you.
While doing so, he has also conveyed a message on how corporate companies harm the earth and how disasters caused by them can leave a lasting impact on people.
The story revolves around five mute friends (four men and one women), who were affected by mercury poisoning. One day, they decide to party for two reasons.
One is the birthday of the female member in the group and the other is the anniversary of the closure of a company called Corporate Earth, which was responsible for poisoning several people in a village.
However, they stumble upon a dead body (played by Prabhu Deva), which is in no mood to leave them. How the dead man haunts them and whether the five are able or not to come out of his clutches form the rest of the story.
While all the five lead actors do their respective roles well, Prabhu Deva hogs the limelight with his terrific performance. But there are two other heroes- cinematographer S Tirru and music composer Santhosh Narayanan.
The two talents simply elevate the movie-watching experience. Karthik Subbaraj, who has once again come up with a quality entertainer, lags in second half. But still, his ‘Mercury’ is a gripping thriller.
