The Madras High Court on Monday issued a stay order on the release of Vijay Antony-starrer ‘Kaali’, directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi.
The order was issued while hearing a petition filed by William Alexander, proprietor, Picture Box Company.
In his plea, he said, “Though Vijay Antony’s earlier film ‘Annadurai’ received moderate success, within a week theatres dumped it.”
Stating that he was the distributor of ‘Annadurai’ for Tamil Nadu, he alleged that the actor sold rights at a higher price.
When Antony found out about Alexander’s loss, he allegedly promised to give rights of ‘Kaali’ at a lesser price. Subsequently, an agreement was signed and Alexander paid Rs 50 lakh as advance.
However, Alexander alleged that Antony was going against his promise, and wanted the court to direct him to compensate his loss to the tune of Rs 4.73 lakh.
